Associations Join Hands to Create Emergency Helplines

Leading business chambers, including FICCI, ASSOCHAM, and CI, I have partnered with disaster management authorities to establish a 24/7 pan-India emergency response network for residential societies and commercial complexes. The initiative, operational from October 2024, will provide single-number access (1800-267-9999) to fire, medical, security, and natural disaster services across 200+ cities. This comes after NCRB data revealed 72% of urban emergencies face delayed responses due to coordination gaps between multiple helplines.

The ₹150 crore project integrates AI-powered call routing, GPS-based first responder dispatch, and multilingual support, including sign language video calls. Housing societies can register their layouts to get customized emergency protocols, while tech parks will receive specialized industrial hazard modules. “This could reduce crisis fatalities by 40% through unified coordination,” explained NIDM Director Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain. The network will initially deploy 5,000 verified vendors – from electricians to snake catchers – with response time guarantees.

State governments are contributing real-time traffic/weather feeds to optimize emergency routes. Notable features include automated elevator rescue alerts and dementia patient tracking. While the service remains free for citizens, premium society packages offer pre-verified contractors and insurance claim assistance. With 50 million potential users, this public-private model sets new benchmarks for urban safety infrastructure ahead of the 2025 monsoon season.
