The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has proposed the development of a cloud-based Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) storage system, aimed at modernizing how digital identities are accessed, managed, and secured across government and business platforms. This innovative system will allow authorized users to store and access their DSCs securely from the cloud, eliminating the dependency on physical USB tokens and enhancing convenience, especially for remote and multi-location workflows.
The proposed system would be equipped with strong multi-factor authentication, role-based access controls, and real-time audit trails to ensure high levels of security and accountability. Users will be able to log in to approved government and enterprise portals, sign documents digitally, and perform verifications from any location without needing to carry their physical DSC token. This initiative is expected to support smoother compliance in areas such as e-tendering, tax filings, MCA submissions, and legal documentation.
Experts believe that cloud-based DSC storage could significantly improve user experience, data security, and accessibility, especially for enterprises managing multiple signatories. The NIC’s proposal aligns with India’s broader vision for digital governance and infrastructure resilience, and if implemented, could mark a major leap in making digital signatures more scalable, mobile, and efficient in a cloud-first environment.
