In a significant boost to entrepreneurial education and digital empowerment, the Digital India Portal has introduced a new series of webinars exclusively designed for sole proprietors. The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aims to equip single-owner businesses with the knowledge and tools required to thrive in a digital economy. The webinars will cover essential business topics such as digital payments, GST filing, online marketing, data security, e-invoicing, and accessing government schemes through technology platforms.
Targeted specifically at India’s vast base of Udyam-registered and informal sole traders, the webinar series is available in multiple regional languages and is hosted in collaboration with industry experts, fintech partners, and startup mentors. Sole business owners can attend these sessions free of cost by registering through the Digital India Portal. The portal also provides downloadable guides, video tutorials, and Q&A support for participants, making it easier for micro-entrepreneurs, especially those in rural and semi-urban regions, to engage with critical business topics at their convenience.
Officials have stated that this initiative is part of the government’s larger vision to foster a digitally skilled and self-reliant small business sector. The webinars are expected to enhance confidence among sole proprietors in using online systems for transactions, compliance, and customer engagement—areas that are becoming essential in the post-pandemic economy. By bringing training directly to mobile devices and computers, the Digital India Portal is lowering the barriers to business education and making digital literacy a foundational asset for India’s smallest enterprises. Trade associations and development economists have praised the move, noting its potential to unlock productivity, professionalism, and long-term sustainability for micro-businesses.
