The state government has issued a new directive requiring all employers to submit proof of Professional Tax (PT) deductions from employees’ salaries along with their periodic returns. This compliance measure is aimed at tightening oversight and preventing discrepancies between declared deductions and actual remittances. Submission of supporting documents such as payroll reports and bank transaction details is now mandatory with each return filing.
According to the notification, the acceptable proof includes employee-wise salary sheets reflecting PT deduction entries and bank challans or payment confirmations evidencing deposit of the deducted amounts. The tax portal has been updated to allow attachment uploads during the return process. Returns filed without adequate supporting documentation will be treated as non-compliant, potentially triggering audits, penalties, or rejection of the return itself.
Tax officials have emphasized that employers must preserve original records for a minimum of six years for verification if required. Employers are also encouraged to standardize their payroll documentation and coordinate with finance teams to ensure consistency in filings. This initiative aligns with the government’s larger objective to enhance accountability and bring greater transparency to Professional Tax administration.
