Government Approves National CSR Monitoring Dashboard for Public Companies

The Government of India has approved the launch of a National CSR Monitoring Dashboard, designed to track and evaluate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of public companies in real time. Developed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), this digital initiative aims to bring greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency to the CSR ecosystem, particularly focusing on public limited companies that fall under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013. The dashboard will be operational from January 2026, and companies will be required to report all CSR project details on this platform.

The new system mandates companies to upload project-wise information, including the amount allocated and spent, geographic location, implementation partners, timelines, and outcomes. It will also integrate with MCA21, enabling automatic validation of annual reports and filings related to Form CSR-2 and Board disclosures. The dashboard will feature a public-facing portal, allowing citizens, investors, regulators, and media to view and monitor CSR performance across sectors and regions. This tool is expected to help curb underreporting and the misuse of CSR funds, while promoting best practices and sectoral benchmarking.

To ensure compliance, the MCA has announced that failure to update the CSR Dashboard as required will be considered a violation of CSR reporting obligations, leading to penalties under Sections 134 and 135 of the Companies Act. The government also plans to roll out training modules and support centers to assist companies and implementation agencies in adapting to the new system. Industry experts have welcomed the initiative, calling it a major step toward digitizing India’s CSR governance, improving impact measurement, and enhancing stakeholder confidence in corporate contributions to sustainable development.
