1. Use Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
- Obtain a valid Class 2 or Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate in the name of the authorized signatory
- DSC must be issued by a government-approved certifying authority
- Required for digitally signing TDS returns, correction statements, and TAN-related forms
2. Register DSC on TRACES Portal
- Log in to the TRACES portal using your TAN credentials
- Go to Profile > Register Digital Signature
- Download and install the emSigner utility as prompted
- Attach the DSC and complete the registration process
3. Authenticate TDS Return Filing
- Prepare and validate TDS return files using RPU and FVU tools
- Upload the return on the TIN-NSDL e-filing portal or TRACES
- Use your registered DSC to digitally authenticate the upload
- Acknowledgment is generated upon successful authentication
4. Authenticate TAN Corrections
- If filing a TAN correction online through the Protean eGov portal, sign the application using your registered DSC
- This ensures faster processing without the need to submit a physical acknowledgment
5. Use in TDS Certificate Downloads
- On TRACES, DSC authentication is required to download Form 16/16A, Consolidated Files, and Justification Reports
- Ensures that the files are securely accessed by authorized users only
Digital authentication using DSC helps validate TAN-holder identity, ensures secure submissions, and is mandatory for many TDS-related online processes.
