In a move set to transform last-mile delivery for micro-enterprises, India Post has announced a dedicated logistics service for sole proprietors and small businesses across the country. This initiative, launched in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of MSME, is part of a broader effort to leverage the expansive postal network to support India’s growing base of individual entrepreneurs. With over 1.5 lakh post offices nationwide, including in the most remote villages, India Post aims to provide reliable, affordable, and doorstep logistics solutions to sole proprietors who often lack access to formal courier or supply chain services.

Under the new plan, India Post will offer tailored logistics packages for small business owners, including parcel pickup, delivery tracking, warehousing options, and e-commerce shipping support. Sole proprietors will be able to register through a simplified process and access services at concessional rates, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. To ensure ease of use, India Post is also integrating digital booking and payment systems, allowing businesses to manage shipments via mobile apps or web portals. This service is especially beneficial for sectors like handmade goods, local food products, garments, and other small-scale manufacturing units that depend on efficient delivery channels.

Officials emphasized that the logistics solution is not just about transportation, but about enabling market access for small businesses that are otherwise limited by location and scale. By strengthening logistics support, India Post aims to empower thousands of sole proprietors to participate more actively in local and national markets, including through online platforms. Training and onboarding workshops will be conducted in collaboration with MSME support centers to help business owners understand how to integrate India Post’s logistics into their day-to-day operations. Industry observers have welcomed this move as a cost-effective and inclusive strategy that utilizes existing infrastructure to stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level.
