The National Conference on Transparent Society Management concluded yesterday at Vigyan Bhawan with wide participation from policymakers, legal experts, association heads, and civil society leaders. Organized by the Ministry of Cooperation in collaboration with several leading NGOs and academic institutions, the two-day event focused on strengthening ethical governance practices and regulatory compliance within registered societies across India.
The conference featured a series of panel discussions, interactive sessions, and expert talks aimed at identifying practical measures to improve financial disclosure, membership accountability, and internal elections in societies. Attendees from across states deliberated on challenges faced by both large and grassroots-level societies in implementing transparent administrative procedures and discussed best practices being followed in different regions.
Inaugurated by Union Minister for Cooperation Mr. B.L. Verma, the event underscored the government’s commitment to building trust-based, technology-enabled systems for society governance. During the closing session, emphasis was placed on the need for digital transformation and the role of legal reforms in supporting transparent functioning. The conference also provided a platform for societies to share real-world experiences on dispute resolution, inclusive membership, and community engagement.
Participants welcomed the opportunity to engage with regulators and expressed hope that the ideas generated would lead to concrete policy initiatives. Many praised the conference for bridging the gap between policymakers and society representatives through constructive dialogue. Officials stated that inputs received during the sessions would be compiled and reviewed for potential inclusion in upcoming amendments to the Societies Registration Act.
With strong attendance and meaningful discussions, the conference was regarded as a timely initiative to advance transparency and accountability in civil society operations. Organizers hinted at making the event an annual fixture, signaling continued efforts toward reform-oriented governance in the sector.
