In a significant step towards unified compliance, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in collaboration with the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), has launched an integrated online portal for company tax and GST filing. This integration allows corporate taxpayers to access and manage their income tax and GST obligations through a single platform, streamlining data entry, reconciliation, and reporting procedures. The move is aimed at reducing duplication of work, minimizing errors, and improving compliance efficiency across the two key tax domains.
With this integration, companies can now auto-populate GST turnover data into their income tax returns, especially in Form ITR-6, and vice versa, ensuring consistency in declarations. The portal also enables real-time matching of key financial indicators such as sales, input credits, and tax payments. Discrepancies between the two systems will trigger instant alerts, allowing companies to make corrections before submission, thereby reducing the risk of audit notices or penalties. Additionally, common dashboards and login credentials make navigation and monitoring more user-friendly for compliance teams.
The new portal also supports combined helpdesk services, AI-driven compliance prompts, and downloadable compliance status reports, assisting companies in maintaining a clean tax profile. CBDT has encouraged companies to begin using the integrated platform for upcoming filings and to ensure that their PAN, GSTIN, and digital signatures are synchronized. This digital merger represents a major advancement in India’s tax infrastructure, making regulatory compliance simpler, faster, and more transparent for corporate entities across the country.
