The Indian government has introduced a series of policy support mechanisms to foster the growth of joint ventures (JVs) in the rapidly expanding sectors of renewable energy and electric vehicles (EVs). Recognizing the critical role these industries play in meeting India’s climate goals and energy security targets, the government is actively promoting collaborations between domestic and international firms. These initiatives are designed to accelerate the transfer of clean technologies, scale manufacturing capacities, and build robust ecosystems for solar, wind, battery storage, and electric mobility.

One of the key pillars of support is the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, which offer financial subsidies to JVs manufacturing solar modules, advanced chemistry batteries, and EV components within India. Additionally, the government has introduced flexible FDI norms, allowing up to 100% foreign investment in renewable and EV sectors under the automatic route, facilitating smoother formation of JVs. Public-sector entities like NTPC, IOCL, and REIL have also been encouraged to partner with private players, creating models for public-private joint ventures that drive both scale and innovation.

Complementing financial incentives, the policy framework also provides infrastructure support, such as land allocation for green energy parks, faster regulatory approvals, and streamlined access to grid connectivity. Moreover, the government is pushing for technology transfer agreements within JVs to promote local capability in solar PV production, hydrogen technologies, and EV battery systems. This coordinated policy approach is expected to make India a global manufacturing and innovation hub for sustainable technologies while reducing its carbon footprint and import dependency.
