In a major step toward administrative reform and accountability, the Registrar of Societies in Uttar Pradesh has launched a Real-Time Complaint Tracking System to streamline grievance redressal for members of registered associations, societies, and cooperatives.
The new digital platform, integrated with the state’s e-Governance portal, allows citizens to lodge complaints related to society mismanagement, membership disputes, financial irregularities, and delayed compliance. Users will now be able to track the status of their complaints in real time through a unique ID issued at the time of filing.
“This is a big leap in making the registrar’s office more transparent, accessible, and responsive,” said Mr. Ajay Pandey, Registrar of Societies. “We receive thousands of complaints each year, many of which get delayed due to manual processing. With this system, accountability and speed will improve significantly.”
The system features SMS and email alerts, automatic case assignment to officials, and time-bound resolution protocols. Complaints can be submitted via desktop or mobile devices, and supporting documents can be uploaded digitally. Once resolved, users will receive closure confirmation along with a copy of the registrar’s final order.
Legal experts and civic tech advocates have welcomed the move, calling it a model for other states to follow. “It empowers ordinary members of societies who previously had no visibility into their complaints,” noted Advocate Richa Sharma, a society law specialist.
Pilot testing in Lucknow and Kanpur has already shown positive results, with complaint processing time reportedly reduced by 50%.
The Registrar’s office plans to expand the system statewide by August and introduce multilingual support for broader accessibility.
