Hello Auditor

What if TAN is not accepted in e-filing?

Mismatch in Details

  • TAN may be rejected during e-filing if there is a mismatch between the TAN and the entity’s PAN or name details.
  • Discrepancies in registered information such as spelling errors, incorrect jurisdiction, or outdated data can lead to validation failure.

Unregistered TAN in Portal

  • If the TAN has not been properly registered on the income tax e-filing portal, it will not be accepted for return submission.
  • The system may block access to filing forms or reflect errors stating that TAN is invalid or not available.

Technical or Profile Issues

  • System errors or incomplete organization profile setups can prevent TAN recognition.
  • Missing details like contact information, email authentication, or digital signature configuration may interrupt validation.

Expired or Cancelled TAN

  • A TAN that has been cancelled or deactivated for any reason will not be accepted during return filing.
  • This may happen due to multiple TANs being issued for the same entity or inactivity over several years.

Incorrect Form or Usage

  • Using the wrong form type or trying to file returns unrelated to the TAN’s purpose (e.g., using TAN for PAN-based returns) results in rejection.
  • The system checks the form compatibility with the TAN’s classification and purpose.
