Best Way to Apply for TAN
1. Apply Online via Protean Portal
- Visit the official website www.tin-nsdl.com managed by Protean eGov Technologies Limited
- Select “Online TAN Application” and choose Form 49B
- Fill in accurate details such as deductor type, address, AO code, and authorized person
- Submit the form online and proceed to payment gateway
- This is the fastest and most convenient method for all categories of applicants
2. Make Secure Payment
- Pay the application fee of ₹65 using debit card, credit card, or net banking
- Upon successful payment, a 14-digit acknowledgment number is generated
- This number is used to track TAN application status
3. Print and Sign Acknowledgment
- Download and print the acknowledgment slip generated after submission
- Sign it using a blue or black ink pen by the authorized signatory of the entity
- Ensure that the name and designation are clearly mentioned
4. Send to NSDL Office
- Send the signed acknowledgment to the following address within 15 days:

5. Track Application Status
- Use the acknowledgment number to track TAN status on the Protean website
- TAN is usually allotted within 5 to 7 working days if the application is error-free
- The TAN allotment letter is dispatched to your registered address or can be downloaded online
