1. Direct Male Descendants
• Sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons of the common ancestor.
• Membership is acquired by birth in the male line.
• Includes both natural and adopted sons (under Hindu Adoption Laws).
2. Wives of Male Members
• Wives of male descendants are automatic members.
• Retain membership even after the husband’s death (unless remarried).
• Have rights to maintenance and residence in the HUF property.
3. Unmarried Daughters
• Daughters are members until marriage.
• After marriage, they cease to be part of the father’s HUF (but may join husband’s HUF).
• The Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005, strengthened their inheritance rights.
4. Divorced/Widowed Daughters
• Can rejoin their father’s HUF if financially dependent.
• Have rights to maintenance and a share in property under certain conditions.
• Courts have recognized their claims in ancestral property disputes.
5. Exceptions & Legal Changes
• Married daughters now have limited coparcenary rights (post-2005 amendment).
• Illegitimate children may have limited claims under judicial interpretations.
• A daughter can become Karta if no male member is available (court rulings).
