Digital Society Governance Tools Launched in Bengaluru

The Karnataka Department of Co-operation has unveiled a first-of-its-kind digital governance platform specifically designed for housing societies and resident welfare associations in Bengaluru. The “MySociety Portal” enables paperless management of member voting, maintenance accounting, and statutory compliance through a secure, cloud-based system. This initiative follows the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) identification of over ₹175 crore in disputed maintenance funds across city societies last fiscal year.

Key features include blockchain-based minute book recording, automated GST filing integrations, and AI-powered dispute resolution guidance. The platform mandates biometric authentication for financial approvals and committee elections, addressing widespread concerns about fraudulent proxy voting. Over 500 societies in tech corridors like Whitefield and Koramangala have already onboarded, with the government offering 50% subsidy on first-year subscription fees for early adopters.

While the move has been praised by urban governance experts, some older societies face digital transition challenges. The state has established “Tech Champions” – trained volunteers who will conduct ward-level training sessions throughout October. Additional modules for electric vehicle charging management and waste processing compliance will be added by December, making this the most comprehensive digital tool for housing societies in India.
