Association Conference Focuses on Social Justice Agenda

A high-level association conference held in Hyderabad this weekend brought together hundreds of delegates from across India to discuss and strengthen the role of social justice in public policy, grassroots governance, and institutional reform.

Titled “Voices of Equity: Empowering Communities through Justice”, the conference was jointly hosted by the National Association for Inclusive Development and leading civil society organizations. The two-day event focused on addressing systemic inequalities in education, healthcare, land rights, caste-based discrimination, and access to justice.

More than 500 participants — including activists, academics, bureaucrats, and association leaders — attended panel discussions, policy roundtables, and capacity-building workshops. Speakers emphasized the urgent need for policy frameworks that ensure dignity and equal opportunity for marginalized groups, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women, and persons with disabilities.

“We must move beyond tokenism and guarantee real representation for oppressed communities at every level of governance,” said Dr. R. Mahalakshmi, keynote speaker and a professor of social policy at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The conference also featured the launch of a Social Justice Action Charter, outlining 10 key demands such as decentralization of welfare delivery, legal aid for the poor, gender-sensitive urban planning, and expanded reservations in private sector employment.

Several state-level association representatives shared success stories on community mobilization, tribal rights advocacy, and inclusive education initiatives. The event concluded with a call for sustained collaboration between government bodies and civil society to uphold the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

Organizers have proposed making the conference an annual platform for advancing India’s social equity agenda. A formal resolution was passed urging the Ministry of Social Justice to consider wider participatory mechanisms in upcoming policy consultations.
