In a bid to improve legal literacy and strengthen governance across registered societies, the Registrar of Societies has announced a nationwide webinar series focused on educating office-bearers, auditors, and members about key provisions of society laws and compliance requirements.
The initiative, set to begin in early June, will span four weeks and cover critical topics such as registration procedures, by-law amendments, financial audits, dispute resolution, digital filing protocols, and election norms under the Societies Registration Act and Cooperative Societies Acts.
“Many societies face compliance challenges due to lack of awareness or outdated practices,” said Registrar General Anita Mehta. “This series is our effort to build informed leadership and prevent legal disputes before they arise.”
The webinars will be conducted in multiple regional languages and hosted on official government platforms, with participation open to all registered societies, including housing societies, charitable associations, educational trusts, and welfare organizations.
To facilitate accessibility, sessions will include live Q&A with legal experts, downloadable guidance booklets, and case studies from real-world scenarios. Special focus will also be given to the recent amendments in digital record-keeping and transparency mandates.
Society federations and resident welfare associations have welcomed the initiative, calling it timely and much-needed. “It’s the first time the Registrar’s office is taking a proactive, educational approach. We expect this to bridge many gaps,” said Suresh Iyer, President of the Tamil Nadu Federation of RWAs.
Attendees can register through the official Registrar portal. Certificates of participation will be issued to societies completing the series.
The move marks a shift in administrative approach—from reactive regulation to preventive education—empowering societies with the tools and knowledge to govern more effectively.
