The Income Tax Department has officially extended the deadline for linking the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar, offering relief to millions of taxpayers across the country. The extension has been granted in response to numerous representations and technical difficulties faced by citizens during the previous window. With this move, the government aims to ensure wider compliance and avoid disruption of essential financial services for individuals who have not yet completed the linking process.
As per the latest notification, the new deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking is now September 30, 2025. This extension provides additional time for PAN holders to link their documents without the risk of having their PAN declared inoperative. The IT Department has reiterated that after the extended deadline, non-compliance will result in the suspension of PAN, affecting the ability to file Income Tax Returns (ITR), open or operate bank accounts, and engage in financial transactions requiring a valid PAN.
The department also reminded taxpayers that the linking process is mandatory under the Income Tax Act and should be completed promptly to avoid penalties or financial inconvenience. Individuals can check their linkage status and complete the process through the official income tax e-filing portal or at designated PAN service centers. The IT Department encourages citizens to act swiftly and not wait until the last minute, as the extended deadline is likely to be the final opportunity for compliance.
