Hello Auditor

How to search TAN records online?

Use of Income Tax E-Filing Portal

  • You can search for TAN records online through the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal by selecting the “Know TAN” service.
  • The search can be conducted using basic details such as the name of the deductor, state, and type of deductor (e.g., company, firm, individual).
  • The system returns the TAN and jurisdiction details based on the input criteria.

NSDL TIN-Facilitation Services

  • The Tax Information Network (TIN), managed by NSDL, offers a “TAN Search” facility under its TAN-related services.
  • You can search by name and location, and retrieve basic TAN information if it’s publicly accessible.
  • This service is especially useful for verifying the TAN of a vendor or business partner.

TRACES Portal for Registered Users

  • If you are a registered TAN holder, you can log in to the TRACES (TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System) portal.
  • Under the dashboard, you can view all TAN-linked records including:
    • TDS filings
    • Defaults
    • Certificate downloads
  • This is for internal access and not public lookup.

AO Office Inquiry

  • If online search fails or if official verification is required, you can contact your jurisdictional Assessing Officer (AO).
  • The AO can provide TAN confirmation based on the PAN, business name, or registered office details.

Limitations on Public Access

  • Full TAN details, such as the PAN of the deductor or detailed filing history, are not publicly visible for privacy and security reasons.

Only authorized personnel or parties with valid access can retrieve detailed records from official systems.
