Hello Auditor

PT Returns to Be Cross-Verified With Income Declarations

The state government has announced that Professional Tax (PT) return filings will now be cross-verified with income declarations made under other state and central tax systems, including Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Income Tax filings. This move is intended to ensure accuracy and consistency in reported earnings and strengthen the state’s ability to detect underreporting or misclassification. The integration of data will be carried out through secure inter-departmental channels.

According to the tax department, discrepancies found between PT returns and income declarations may trigger automated alerts and verification notices. Businesses and self-employed individuals are expected to reconcile their financial records and ensure that employee salary details, gross turnover, and taxable income align across platforms. Repeat inconsistencies or unresolved mismatches may lead to targeted audits, penalties, or enforcement action under the Professional Tax Act.Taxpayers have been advised to review their past filings and coordinate with financial consultants or tax professionals to validate data across systems. The government is also offering technical assistance and guidelines to help assess and understand the reconciliation process. This measure is part of a broader initiative to enhance transparency, promote data-driven compliance, and curb revenue leakages through integrated governance.
