Understanding Inactive UAN.
- UAN (Universal Account Number) may be marked inactive due to long periods of inactivity.
- Inactivity generally occurs when there are no contributions for over 36 months.
- An inactive UAN cannot be used for online claims or access.
- The account may still earn interest if it has not yet become inoperative.
- Inactive status limits access to EPFO’s online services until reactivated.
Reactivating the UAN.
- Visit the EPFO Unified Portal and choose the “Activate UAN” option.
- Enter details such as UAN, name, date of birth, mobile number, and Aadhaar or PAN.
- Submit the request and verify with the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
- Upon successful verification, the UAN is reactivated for online use.
- If a mobile number is outdated, contact EPFO to update it manually.
Claim Through Offline Method.
- Download Form 19 (EPF withdrawal), Form 10C (for pension), or Form 31 (advance).
- Fill the form manually with correct personal and employment details.
- Attach a cancelled cheque with your name printed on it.
- Provide self-attested copies of Aadhaar and PAN card.
- Submit the complete set to the concerned EPFO regional office.
Employer Attestation Requirement.
- If UAN is inactive or KYC is not updated, employer attestation is mandatory.
- The employer verifies the details and signs/stamps the claim form.
- EPFO accepts claims only if the employer verification is complete and authentic.
- Retired or jobless individuals should approach their last employer for assistance.
- Employer help may also be needed to re-link the mobile number or update details.
Follow-Up and Grievance Handling.
- Track offline claim status by contacting the regional EPFO office.
- Use the EPFiGMS grievance portal to complain if delayed.
- Visit the nearest EPFO office with ID proof and UAN details if needed.
- Keep copies of all forms, receipts, and acknowledgments for the record.
Ensure the bank account linked with UAN is active for receiving funds.
