Resume contribution through the employer
- The most common way to activate an IP (Insured Person) is by starting or resuming monthly contributions.
- The employer must include the employee in the monthly contribution filing.
- Once contributions are submitted and processed, the IP status changes to active.
- Contributions must be made within the prescribed time for the coverage period to begin.
- Continued contributions ensure uninterrupted access to ESIC benefits.
Rehire or rejoin under an ESIC-covered establishment
- If an employee joins a new ESIC-registered organization, they can reuse their existing IP number.
- The new employer must register the employee using the same IP number.
- Upon successful registration and contribution, the status becomes active.
- Avoid duplicate registrations by verifying the old IP number before entry.
- The new employment record is linked to the previously issued IP account.
Correct errors or resolve issues
- If the IP is inactive due to data entry errors or missed contributions, employers must correct records.
- Submit revised returns or missing payments for the period in question.
- Contact the ESIC branch office if technical issues prevent activation.
- Supporting documents may be required for manual activation requests.
- The system will reflect changes once corrections are approved and processed.
Reactivate after short-term inactivity
- For cases where the IP status lapsed due to brief absence or unpaid leave, resuming contributions can automatically reactivate the account.
- There is no need for a new registration if the same IP number is used.
- Employers should ensure that there is no duplication or mismatch in records.
- IP details must be kept consistent across all filings and updates.
Contact ESIC office for support
- If system-based activation does not occur despite correct filings, visit the nearest ESIC regional office.
- Submit a formal request with the employee’s IP number and documents.
- The office can manually verify and reactivate the account if justified.
- Keep acknowledgment and follow up until the status shows as active.
- Once active, benefits under ESIC become available based on eligibility.
