The Income Tax Department has issued an advisory to all businesses and tax deductors, urging them to verify their TAN (Tax Dedication and Collection Account Number) details online to ensure smooth compliance with upcoming filing requirements. As part of its ongoing digitization and transparency initiatives, the department has upgraded its online verification portal, allowing users to cross-check their registered TAN, linked PAN, entity name, and jurisdiction with ease. This move is aimed at minimizing errors in TDS/TCS filings, which often result in penalties or delayed processing.
Entities that operate across multiple locations or have undergone recent changes in ownership or structure are especially advised to confirm that their TAN records are accurate and updated. Any mismatch between the TAN and PAN database can lead to filing rejections, delayed refunds, or notices under Sections 234E and 271H of the Income Tax Act. The online system now also allows for the correction of TAN details, including contact information and business address, without the need for physical paperwork or in-person visits.
With the TAN compliance deadline approaching, the department has reiterated that quoting an incorrect or invalid TAN in official tax documents will be treated as a violation. Businesses are strongly encouraged to make use of the NSDL e-Gov TAN verification tool or consult with registered tax professionals to ensure their TAN credentials are accurate. This digital verification step is being promoted as a critical component of the government’s broader effort to streamline tax administration and ensure data integrity across departments.
