Deadline Extended for Annual Professional Tax Filing

The state government has officially extended the deadline for annual professional tax filing, offering relief to employers, businesses, and self-employed individuals. The revised deadline applies to all entities registered under the Professional Tax Act who are required to submit their annual returns and payments. The new due date has been pushed to June 30, replacing the earlier cut-off scheduled for May 31, as confirmed by the Department of Commercial Taxes.

This extension has been granted in response to representations received from various industry associations citing operational delays and system upgrades. As per the circular, no penalty or late fee will be levied for filings made on or before the extended date. However, authorities have stressed that filings beyond the revised deadline will attract statutory interest and penalties, without any further grace period.

The department has urged all stakeholders to take advantage of the extension and ensure the timely submission of their returns. Employers must deduct and deposit professional tax as per the updated slab rates, and freelancers or self-employed professionals must file their assessments where applicable. Officials also reiterated that online filing portals have been updated and are now open for submissions, with additional helpdesk support in place for queries and clarifications.
