In a significant achievement reflecting the scale of India’s formal workforce integration, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has officially surpassed the milestone of 30 crore Universal Account Number (UAN) activations. This landmark underscores EPFO’s expanding reach and the growing formalization of employment across the country. The UAN system, introduced to streamline multiple PF accounts under one umbrella, has become a cornerstone in ensuring seamless access to EPF services for millions of workers.

The milestone highlights the success of continuous digital drives, awareness campaigns, and employer collaboration in promoting UAN adoption among new and existing members. With an activated UAN, employees can track their EPF balance, initiate withdrawals, update KYC, transfer accounts, and access pension and insurance benefits—all through a single digital identity. EPFO’s efforts to make UAN linking mandatory with Aadhaar and mobile numbers have significantly enhanced the efficiency and security of EPF transactions.

EPFO officials credited this achievement to the collective push from both government and private stakeholders in ensuring broader coverage under India’s social security net. As more workers enter the formal economy, especially through schemes like PMGKY and e-Shram, the UAN system remains pivotal in delivering timely and transparent social protection.
