How to Know PAN Jurisdiction in India

PAN (Permanent Account Number) jurisdiction refers to the specific Income Tax office or assessing officer assigned to handle your tax matters. This includes assessment, verification, scrutiny, and correspondence. Knowing your PAN jurisdiction helps in filing complaints, submitting documents, or responding to notices accurately.

• It identifies the Income Tax Ward or Circle based on your geographical and legal status.

• It is assigned when you apply for a PAN and is linked to your address or business location.

• The jurisdiction determines the Assessing Officer (AO) responsible for processing your tax affairs.

• Where to Check PAN Jurisdiction Online

• Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal 

• Log in using your PAN and password.

• Go to ‘My Profile’ → ‘PAN Details’ → ‘Jurisdiction Details’.

• You will see your AO code, range, circle, and officer name listed.

• Alternate Method via Know Your AO (NSDL)

• Enter your PAN and registered mobile number.

• You’ll receive an OTP for verification.

• After successful validation, your jurisdictional AO details will be displayed.

• Information Displayed in Jurisdiction Lookup

AO Code – A combination of Area Code, AO Type, Range Code, and AO Number.

Jurisdictional Officer – The name and designation of the assessing officer.
