Hello Auditor

How to track TAN application status?

Use of Acknowledgment Number

  • After submitting the TAN application a 14-digit acknowledgment number is generated
  • This number is required to check the application status
  • It is provided immediately after successful submission of Form 49B
  • The number must be kept safely for future reference
  • Without this number tracking is not possible

Visit the Official TAN Application Portal

  • Go to the TAN application status section on the official portal
  • Choose the option to track the status of TAN application
  • Enter the 14-digit acknowledgment number in the required field
  • Select the application type as TAN
  • Submit the request to view current status

Understanding the Status Messages

  • Status will show whether the application is received or under processing
  • If approved it will show TAN generated and date of dispatch
  • If rejected it may show reasons such as form errors or missing signature
  • If dispatched it will show the date and method of delivery
  • May also reflect whether any correction or resubmission is required

Correction or Follow-up if Delayed

  • If status remains unchanged beyond expected time follow up with the facilitation center
  • For offline applications contact the TIN center where form was submitted
  • For online applications check if the signed acknowledgment was properly delivered
  • Resend or correct the application if requested by the department
  • Ensure all data was accurately entered and acknowledgment was signed

Use by Individuals and Businesses

  • Both individuals and companies can track using the same process
  • Status tracking helps plan for TDS or TCS compliance in advance
  • It confirms whether the TAN is active and valid for use
  • Helps avoid penalties or delays in tax reporting
  • Ensures transparency and control over the application process
