Use of Acknowledgment Number
- After submitting the TAN application a 14-digit acknowledgment number is generated
- This number is required to check the application status
- It is provided immediately after successful submission of Form 49B
- The number must be kept safely for future reference
- Without this number tracking is not possible
Visit the Official TAN Application Portal
- Go to the TAN application status section on the official portal
- Choose the option to track the status of TAN application
- Enter the 14-digit acknowledgment number in the required field
- Select the application type as TAN
- Submit the request to view current status
Understanding the Status Messages
- Status will show whether the application is received or under processing
- If approved it will show TAN generated and date of dispatch
- If rejected it may show reasons such as form errors or missing signature
- If dispatched it will show the date and method of delivery
- May also reflect whether any correction or resubmission is required
Correction or Follow-up if Delayed
- If status remains unchanged beyond expected time follow up with the facilitation center
- For offline applications contact the TIN center where form was submitted
- For online applications check if the signed acknowledgment was properly delivered
- Resend or correct the application if requested by the department
- Ensure all data was accurately entered and acknowledgment was signed
Use by Individuals and Businesses
- Both individuals and companies can track using the same process
- Status tracking helps plan for TDS or TCS compliance in advance
- It confirms whether the TAN is active and valid for use
- Helps avoid penalties or delays in tax reporting
