How to use PAN for e-proceedings on the IT portal?

How to Use PAN for e-Proceedings on the IT Portal in India

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is the central identifier used for accessing and responding to e-Proceedings — a paperless communication mechanism between taxpayers and the Income Tax Department. All notices, submissions, and assessments are linked to your PAN and accessed via the e-Filing portal.

• Accessing the e-Filing Portal with PAN

• Visit  and click on Login.

• Enter your PAN as the User ID, along with your password and captcha.

• PAN login provides access to your e-Filing dashboard, including pending actions.

• If you’re logging in for the first time, register using PAN and create a secure password.

• Navigating to the e-Proceedings Section

• After logging in, go to ‘Pending Actions’ → ‘e-Proceedings’ from the main menu.

• You will see a list of active communications or notices linked to your PAN.

• Each notice or proceeding is tagged with a reference number and issue date.

• PAN ensures that only your authorized proceedings are visible on your dashboard.

• Responding to Notices Using PAN

• Click on the notice to view its contents and related instructions.

• Submit your response directly through the portal under ‘Submit Response’.

• Upload relevant documents (PDF, JPEG, etc.) and verify submission.

• Your response is tagged with your PAN for automated tracking and acknowledgement.

• PAN-Based Tracking and Acknowledgement

• Each response submitted is acknowledged and saved in ‘View Submissions’ under your profile.

• PAN is used to match your submission with the assessing officer’s dashboard.

• You can track the status (Submitted, Under Review, Completed) using your PAN login.

• The system sends alerts via email/SMS on PAN-linked contacts for updates.

• Security, Legal Validity, and Follow-up

• PAN ensures that all communication is secured and accessible only to the rightful taxpayer.

• Responses submitted through e-Proceedings are legally binding and time-stamped.

• PAN-based access helps avoid duplication and provides an audit trail of compliance.

• Future communications from the department, including final orders, are also linked to your PAN.
