The state government has issued a directive making Professional Tax Registration compulsory for all employers, regardless of the number of employees engaged. The announcement marks a significant shift from previous norms, where only employers with a minimum workforce were obligated to register. As per the latest circular, every organization, business, or establishment hiring even a single employee must obtain a Professional Tax Registration Certificate (PTRC) within the specified timeline.

The order further specifies that employers must deduct professional tax from employees’ salaries according to the revised state slabs and deposit the same with the government. Additionally, monthly or quarterly returns must be filed by the nature and scale of employment. Non-compliance, including failure to register or delay in deduction or remittance, will attract statutory penalties, late fees, and interest charges, as detailed in the updated tax code.

Authorities clarified that registration under the Professional Tax Act is mandatory even if the employer is already registered under other labor or taxation laws. Officials have urged business owners and HR professionals to review their compliance status and complete the registration process at the earliest. The government has also announced support measures to assist smaller establishments in understanding and fulfilling their new obligations under the updated framework.
