The Professional Tax (PT) Department has begun issuing statutory notices to businesses and individuals who have failed to file their returns within the prescribed deadlines. This enforcement drive follows a detailed compliance review conducted for the previous financial year. Notices have been sent to both employers and self-employed professionals who are registered under the Professional Tax Act but did not submit periodic or annual returns as mandated.
The department clarified that the notices demand immediate explanation and submission of overdue returns, failing which penalties, interest, and further legal action will be initiated. Defaulters may also face cancellation of their Professional Tax Registration Certificates (PTRC/PTEC), along with disqualification from government-linked services or licenses. Authorities have advised affected parties to respond within the stipulated time mentioned in the notices to avoid escalated consequences.
Officials reiterated that non-filing is treated as a serious compliance lapse under the current regulatory framework, and monitoring systems have been enhanced to flag discrepancies in real time. Employers have been urged to verify their filing history and regularize any outstanding dues through the new online PT portal. The department also announced that helpdesks and support centers will be available to assist in resolving filing errors and clarification requests.
