SEBI Launches Investor Awareness Drive on Public Companies

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has launched a nationwide Investor Awareness Drive aimed at educating retail investors about their rights, responsibilities, and risks while investing in public limited companies. This strategic initiative seeks to enhance transparency, protect investor interests, and promote informed participation in India’s expanding capital markets. The campaign focuses on critical topics such as interpreting financial statements, understanding public disclosures, identifying red flags in corporate behavior, and avoiding misinformation in speculative investments.

As part of the initiative, SEBI will conduct interactive webinars, workshops, and media campaigns across metropolitan and tier-2 cities, in collaboration with stock exchanges, registered intermediaries, and investor associations. Special emphasis will be placed on educating new investors about how to navigate initial public offerings (IPOs), monitor promoter holdings, evaluate credit ratings, and distinguish between fundamental and speculative stock movements. SEBI’s communication materials will be published in multiple regional languages and disseminated through print, television, digital platforms, and investor education portals.

To ensure continued engagement, SEBI is also introducing a dedicated investor helpline and grievance redressal interface integrated with the SCORES platform. This will allow investors to report non-compliance, seek clarifications, and track complaint resolution timelines more efficiently. Industry experts have praised the move, calling it a vital step toward building a resilient investor ecosystem, especially as public participation in equity markets grows. The initiative is expected to not only strengthen public trust in listed companies but also contribute to the long-term stability and inclusiveness of India’s financial markets.
