Startup India Portal Now Supports LLP Profile Registration

In a major policy upgrade, the Startup India Portal now officially supports profile registration for Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs), expanding the platform’s inclusivity to accommodate a broader spectrum of startup structures. Previously limited primarily to private limited companies and registered partnerships, the portal’s new functionality allows LLPs to create dedicated profiles, apply for DPIIT recognition, and access a full range of startup benefits. This enhancement is expected to boost formalization, especially among service-based startups, tech innovators, and professional firms that prefer the LLP model for its flexibility and low compliance burden.

Through this update, LLPs can register by providing incorporation details, partner information, business objectives, and financial data, much like their company counterparts. The system cross-verifies credentials with MCA and PAN databases, offering real-time validation and pre-filled data fields to reduce manual errors. Once approved, LLP startups gain access to tax exemptions, self-certification under labor and environment laws, IPR fast-tracking, and funding opportunities under government schemes. This represents a significant step toward equal treatment for LLPs in the startup ecosystem.

Experts believe the move will encourage more entrepreneurs to adopt the LLP structure, especially in consulting, design, and digital sectors where operational freedom and shared responsibility are preferred. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) also announced that recognized LLP startups will now be eligible for seed fund schemes, startup challenges, and mentorship programs listed on the portal. Stakeholders view this inclusion as a meaningful advancement in India’s effort to promote ease of doing business, digital onboarding, and equitable access to innovation incentives.
