What Is the Process to Update or Correct PAN Details in India?
If your PAN (Permanent Account Number) contains incorrect information such as a wrong name, date of birth, or father’s name, or if you’ve changed your address or signature, you can easily request a correction or update through the official process. This ensures your PAN data remains accurate and legally valid for financial and tax-related use.
• When to Update or Correct PAN
• If your name has changed due to marriage, spelling errors, or legal documentation.
• If your date of birth, gender, or father’s name is incorrectly printed.
• If your photo or signature needs to be changed or updated.
• If your address or contact details need to be modified for communication purposes.
• Where to Apply for PAN Correction
• You can apply online through NSDL (now Protean )
• Or use the UTIITSL portal at https://www.pan.utiitsl.com for correction services.
• Offline applications can be submitted at authorized PAN service centers across India.
• Choose the option: “Correction in PAN Data” or “Reprint PAN Card” based on your need.
• Filling the PAN Correction Form
• Select the appropriate form: Form 49A for Indian citizens or Form 49AA for foreign nationals.
• Fill in only the fields that need correction or updating.
• Mention your existing PAN number in the form clearly.
• Affix a recent passport-size photo and sign in the designated space (for physical form submission).
• Submit Supporting Documents
• Provide valid proof for changes, such as:
– Aadhaar card, Passport, or Gazette Notification for name changes.
– Birth certificate or school certificate for date of birth correction.
– Utility bills or bank statements for address updates.
• Documents must be self-attested and in the applicant’s name.
• For online submission, upload scanned copies in acceptable format and size.
• For name changes due to marriage, marriage certificate or husband’s passport may be required.
• Track Status and Receive Updated PAN
• After submission, an acknowledgment number will be generated for tracking.
• Use the number to track status on the NSDL or UTIITSL portal.
• Upon verification and approval, the updated PAN card will be dispatched to the registered address.
• You may also download an e-PAN PDF if opted during the application.
