The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has taken significant steps to simplify the registration process for One Person Companies (OPCs) in India, aiming to encourage individual entrepreneurship and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. These reforms are in line with the government’s push for ease of doing business and digital-first governance. The simplified process includes online incorporation through the SPICe+ (Simplified Proforma for Incorporating Company Electronically Plus) portal, enabling entrepreneurs to obtain name approval, Director Identification Number (DIN), PAN, TAN, and GST registration—all in a single integrated form.
Another major simplification is the reduction in documentation and compliance requirements. Applicants are no longer required to submit affidavits and notarized declarations separately, and most forms are self-certified, expediting approvals and minimizing costs. Additionally, the requirement to appoint a nominee director—mandatory for OPC formation—has been made more flexible and transparent, ensuring that the business can continue uninterrupted in the event of unforeseen circumstances affecting the sole owner.
These procedural improvements have made OPC incorporation not only quicker but also more accessible for professionals, freelancers, and early-stage entrepreneurs across India. With the entire process being digitally driven and time-bound, most OPCs can now be registered within a few working days, compared to weeks under the older system. This streamlined approach is expected to significantly increase OPC registrations and support the growth of formal business activity among individual founders nationwide.
