What documents are required to pay road tax?

Vehicle Ownership Proof

  • Original invoice or sales certificate from the vehicle dealer.
  • Registration Certificate (RC) or temporary registration document.
  • For second-hand vehicles, Form 29 and Form 30 are required.
  • Ownership transfer papers must be submitted if applicable.
  • Any proof of previous tax payment should be enclosed.

Identity and Address Proof

  • Valid government-issued photo ID of the vehicle owner.
  • Accepted documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport.
  • Residential proof such as utility bill, rental agreement, or voter ID.
  • Address proof must match the location for registration.
  • For company-owned vehicles, organizational ID and address proof are needed.

Vehicle Specifications and Documents

  • Copy of the vehicle’s insurance certificate.
  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate if already issued.
  • Vehicle chassis number and engine number details.
  • Form 20 (application for registration) for new vehicles.
  • Any applicable type approval or homologation certificate.

For Interstate Transfers

  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the previous RTO.
  • Original Registration Certificate from the earlier state.
  • Form 28, Form 29, and Form 30 for ownership and transfer.
  • Address proof in the new state of residence.
  • Copy of the original road tax receipt for refund claim if needed.

Payment and Application Forms

  • Filled road tax application form issued by the state RTO.
  • Demand Draft or challan for road tax amount if paying offline.
  • Online payment receipt if the tax is paid digitally.
  • Any exemption or concession documents for eligible vehicles.

Signature and passport-size photographs of the vehicle owner.
