What is the process of obtaining a DPIN?

Understanding DPIN

  • DPIN stands for Designated Partner Identification Number
  • It is a unique number issued to individuals intending to become designated partners in an LLP.
  • It is mandatory for compliance with the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008
  • A person cannot act as a designated partner without a valid DPIN.
  • One DPIN can be used across multiple LLPs by the same individual.

Pre-Application Requirements

  • The applicant must possess a valid Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
  • The DSC is used to sign and submit electronic documents to the MCA portal.l
  • The individual must be at least 18 years of age and legally competent to contract.t
  • Identity and address proofs must be collected in the required formats.
  • A photograph and contact details of the applicant must be kept on file.y

Application Submission

  • The DPIN is applied for through Form DIR-3, available on the MCA portal.
  • The form must be filled out with personal, contact, and identification details.
  • Supporting documents must be digitally signed and uploaded with a form.m
  • The form requires certification from a professional such as a CA, CS, or CMA.
  • Upon submission, an acknowledgment number is generated for tracking.g

Required Documents

  • Proof of identity such as a PAN card, passport, or government-issued ID
  • Proof of address, such as a utility bill, bank statement, or driving license
  • A recent passport-size photograph of the applicant in JPEG format
  • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for authentication
  • For foreign nationals, documents must be notarized and apostilled as applicable.

Approval and Allotment

  • The Ministry of Corporate Affairs reviews the application for accuracy.
  • If found complete and correct, the DPIN is issued to the applicant.t
  • The DPIN is communicated via the registered email address.
  • It becomes immediately valid for use as a designated partner in an LLP.

The DPIN remains valid until surrendered, cancelled, or disqualified.
